Happiness is something that could be called a universal desire of all of humanity. We want more of it in our daily lives, oftentimes using it as a compass for the choices we make – either moving us closer toward happiness or further away from its antithesis, pain.
The challenge is that people know happiness is what we want and they exploit our innate desire and drive to do almost anything to achieve it. So it’s safe to say there’s a lot of shit out there that makes sense, but doesn’t end in the result of “happiness”.
That’s where this week’s guest, PhD of Health Science + Happiness Researcher & Expert, Gillian Mandich comes in. If you want to better understand what creates happiness, and how you can add more to your life, you’ll love every moment of this episode.
3 moments you’ll love from this episode include:
- 1:46 – 2:06: Why Science is The Key To Happiness
- 23:08 – 23:30: Why Doing Hards Things Is Vital Happiness
- 1:12:00 – 1:12:25: How Your Language Dictates Your Thinking & How To Better Control It
Happiness Is Not A Destination Or An Outcome
The problem is the memes and stories we’ve been told about happiness are inaccurate, and the things we do to try and create more happiness in our lives leave us further from it than we were. Or, worse yet, they give us the fleeting sensation of happiness, only to drop us further from it as if we were riding a rollercoaster.
Amidst all the bullshit, there are real practices that create long-term happiness. They tend to be universal to all humans, with some specificity added in depending on what makes you happy, and the best news is it is something you can learn.
It’s A Process
Part of being happy is understanding that it’s impossible to be happy all the time. Consciously, you know this, and yet, when the chaos of life is happening, we forget it. One of the tools you learn in this episode is to consciously add your own “moments of happiness”, as Dr. Mandich calls them.
Listen to the entire episode for the other tools, and much more and watch how happiness becomes a more consistent part of your life.
